A History of Ashby de la Zouch

Kenneth Hillier

Starting Wednesday September 3 for six [non consecutive] weeks

Six illustrated talks looking at the development of the town from the earliest known period until the present day. We study the effect of Roman, Saxon Dane and Norman on the early development of the town and its immediate area. The Ashby of the Zouche and Hastings families is then assessed, with the effect of civil war, religion and education on the town's inhabitants. The French Prisoners of War, the Spa Town and the turbulence of the 20th century is followed by an appraisal of early 21st century Ashby.
